Atteridgeville NPO keeps young girls in school
Many young girls go so far as using toilet paper and pieces of clothing as sanitary towels just so they can go to school to better their lives.
The Boys Care Pad Drive is an initiative from Atteridgeville aimed at providing young girls with sanitary towels.
According to one of the members of the pad drive Thabo Mphuthi, there are a number of young girls in schools, orphanages and other different organisations who are in need of sanitary towels.
Mphuthi said their biggest worry is seeing young girls miss classes due to the lack of sanitary pads.

“Others go so far as using toilet paper and pieces of clothing as sanitary towels just so they can go to school to better their lives,” he said.
In 2021, the Boys Care Pad Drive donated over 350 sanitary pads to young girls from different orphanages, organisations and schools.
Mphuthi said since the beginning of the initiative, they have been solely dependent on donations from the public.
“This year, we want to go big and we don’t want to limit ourselves. We want to donate at least 1 500 sanitary towels,” said Mphuthi.
He said the aim was to eventually have their own sanitary pad production which will see them producing millions of sanitary towels to give to young girls.
“That way, not only will we donate more pads, we will also create employment for the unemployed.

“We are still doing research on how to go about manufacturing sanitary pads,” said Mphuthi.
“Being in the presence of these young and smart girls is a beautiful experience.
“The excitement they have brought to the whole team is the reason we want to keep on doing better.”
