Local girl scoops International Model Earth 2022 pageant

“‘I am going to nail it’ Kea said on the plane. Indeed she did just that. Unbelievable confidence she has.”

A seven-year-old schoolgirl from Mamelodi was crowned the Grand Prix Model-Mini Model Earth 2022 at the International Little Model Earth pageant on Tuesday.

Keabetswe Temane, a grade 1 learner from Curro Academy in Pretoria, was representing South Africa in Tanzania, where the pageant was held from April 14-21.

She was accompanied by her mentor, Dr Mmatepeng Muda Temane, from the Rotary Club Waterkloof.

Temane said Kea (as she is known) knew what she wanted from the get-go.

“When Kea was asked how she felt about being on the plane for the first time to Zanzibar to represent South Africa in the International Model Earth Pageant, she responded confidently by saying, ‘I am going to nail it’.

“Indeed she did just that. Unbelievable confidence she has.”

The competition was hosted by Amone Modelling Academy led by Amanda Kriel, which boasts over 200 international children’s pageant licences.

The countries that took part in the pageant were Romania, Georgia, Brazil, Kenya, Bulgaria, South Africa and Tanzania with 19 contestants.

“Children need platforms like this to unleash their talents, public speaking and self-confidence,” said Temane.

Last year, Kea scooped two titles, the second Princess Little Miss Nations 2021 and the second Princess Little Model Earth 2021.

Temane said she groomed Kea while she was still a small baby and journeyed with her all these years grooming her for global stages through the organisation called American Field Services (AFS) Inter-Cultural Learning, Peace and a Just Society.

She added that Kea runs her own project called “Sharing inspires Caring” under the Ditsala Children Shield banner and donated clothes and shoes for needy children in the farming communities in Rustenburg, Mamelodi and surrounding areas.

Recently, she donated 35 doctors’ educational toy packs and photo frames to Jasmyn Creche. Kea was involved with a clean-up campaign in Nellmapius where she worked hand-in-hand with ward councillor Shaun Wilkinson and a group of young volunteers from the AZEZ WAO World Mission Society Church of God led by Pastor Noah.

Little Kea is expected to start running empowering and motivating talks with other children.
