US Teen involved in Pedrie Wannenberg fatal crash arrested

The teenager, believed to be 16 years old, was reportedly evading the police when his car caused the accident that killed Wannenberg and injured his 8-year-old son.

The US teenager believed to be responsible for the horrific car accident that killed former Blue Bulls and Springbok rugby player, Pedrie Wannenburg, has been arrested.

Wannenberg died on Friday, when he and his family were caught up in a high-speed chase as police pursued the teenager who was with two passengers in his car.

It is believed the teenager lost control of his vehicle hitting two others vehicles, including Wannenburg’s.

The 41-year-old Wannenburg was declared dead at a hospital.

His 8-year-old son is still in critical condition in hospital.

His wife Evette and their 10-year-old daughter were unharmed.

Confirming the arrest on his twitter page, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gozalez said the 16-year-old faced charges of felony murder, reckless aggravated assault, serious bodily injury, and three counts of aggravated assault-bodily injury.

“His two passengers, also 16 years of age, sustained non-life threatening injuries,” he wrote.

According to Gondzalez, units were attempting to conduct a traffic stop in the area when the 16-year-old fled.

“The suspect vehicle then struck two other vehicles,” he wrote

“The deceased has been identified as Pedrie Wannenburg.

“His 8-year-old male passenger has life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.”
