Metro completes refurbishments at Bon Accord substation

The substation now provides a stable supply of electricity to residents and businesses in the area.

The Tshwane metro recently finished refurbishments at the Bon Accord substation in Pretoria North to limit the number of power trips experienced by the substation.

The entire substation would trip when there were underground cable faults and this negatively affected the electricity supply to consumers in the area, according to Tshwane mayor Randall Williams.

Williams said the substation now operated far more effectively since the upgrades were completed.

He said the substation now provides a stable supply of electricity to residents and businesses in the area. This includes Bon Accord, Grootvlei and Waterval.

“The upgrades included installing new main feeder and ring feeder switching panels, laying new cables and upgrading the substation’s safety features,” Williams said.

He added that the following projects were also recently completed in Tshwane:

– Installation of a new 240/3c 11kV main feeder cable from the Pyramid substation to a new T3 waterworks and a new double 11kV overhead line from T3 to Abattoir.

– In the 2019/20 financial year, two 150/3c 11kV main feeder cables were installed from Pretoria North to Onderstepoort substation.

Williams said the renovating and maintenance of the metro’s infrastructure is a crucial priority.

“We are committed to ensuring that our infrastructure supports our vision to build a thriving city by facilitating economic growth and job creation for our people,” said Williams.
