Police launch manhunt for Soshanguve mall shooting suspects
"They went to one of the guys who was laying on the ground and shot him right there," says an eyewitness.
Police launched a manhunt after two men were shot and killed outside the Soshanguve Crossing Mall last week Friday.
Two more men sustained injuries during the shooting, according to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo.
“A group of men were outside the mall when a white Audi A3 with several men in it stopped and fired at them,” he said.
Two were fatally shot while the other two were taken to local hospitals after they sustained injuries.
“The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage.”
A case of murder and attempted murder have been opened for investigation. No arrests have been made.
Police have appealed to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or in apprehending the suspects, to please call their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
A taxi driver, who witnessed the incident and spoke to Record on condition of anonymity, said one of the men was trying to hide behind one of the victims.
He said the suspects fired at both men before killing both of them.

“They went to one of the guys who was laying on the ground and shot him right there.
“As drivers, we are afraid that our passengers, children and residents will one day catch stray bullets because of the ongoing violence in the area.
“These people don’t care. They just shoot everything and everyone in their way. Shootings and violent crimes are catching fire in Soshanguve and we fear that as drivers, we might also be caught in the crossfire.”
A resident of Block L, Lesego Mlangeni, said the community was worried about the recent violence in the community.
Mlangeni said she was afraid that innocent lives might be lost in the crossfire.
“A week ago there was a cash-in-transit robbery just near the Tshwane University of Technology. Last week, it’s the men who were shot near the mall. About two months ago, another man was shot and killed in the same area.
“We are worried about the things our children are experiencing. The violence is becoming too much. We would like to see the police making arrests for such crimes.”
Soshanguve police spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi said they are concerned about the killings and serious crimes in the area.
Zondi said measures were being put in place to try and reduce the number of shootings.
“We will be doing awareness campaigns in the community as well as intensifying patrols.”
