Stabbed security guard: Woman accused of partner’s murder books herself into psychiatric hospital

"When he got to Fred Nicholson and Lambert Lee streets, Dobson fainted and lost control of the car."

The partner of a Pretoria security officer found dead with stab wounds to his chest on Valentine’s Day has booked herself into a psychiatric hospital, the Pretoria magistrate’s court heard this week.

In court on Tuesday, during her brief appearance, it was stated that Natasha Beyers (32), who was charged with the murder of Arthur John “Attie” Dobson (45), was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Pretoria for evaluation.

The 45-year-old Dobson was declared dead by paramedics at an accident scene on the corner of Fred Nicholson Street and Lambert Lee Avenue in Mayville on February 14.

Paramedics reported that Dobson lost control of his vehicle after being wounded with a sharp object in his left abdomen.

Arthur John “Attie” Dobson was laid to rest at Zandontein cemetery a week after his death,.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Lourens Lemmer, said that Beyers’ admission to a hospital was out of her own will.

Beyers, who has been out on bail of R3 000 since February 21, booked herself into the hospital.

“The post-mortem has been completed, but the DNA tests are still outstanding,” said Lemmer.

The case was yet again adjourned until Tuesday, June 7, for further investigation.

Speaking to the Rekord after court, the victim’s father, Arthur Dobson Sr., said their son’s death “is only now becoming a reality”.

“We realise more and more that our time on earth will come to an end one day, but we never thought our son would be taken away from us in such a way,” said Dobson Sr.

“The accident scene is still playing out in my head now – no father wants to see his son covered with that ‘silver blanket’.”

Dobson Sr. thanked the community for supporting the family after his son’s death.

Father of the accused, Arthur Dobson Sr.

“I’m still dumbfounded at the legacy our son leaves behind in the community and other people’s lives. I’m proud to say that he was my son. He will stay in my heart forever.”

According to the NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the couple (who has a seven-year-old son) allegedly got into an argument over a cigarette before Dobson allegedly assaulted Beyers and she stabbed him with a knife.

“The deceased then locked Beyers in the house and drove off. It is claimed that when he got to Fred Nicholson and Lambert Lee streets, Dobson fainted and lost control of the car, which went off the road and hit a tree.

“The police traced the address the deceased shared with Beyers. Upon their arrival, they found Beyers locked inside the house. She told them that the deceased had taken the key. The police found the key inside the car and informed Beyers of the deceased’s passing.

“After inquiring about what had happened, Beyers admitted to stabbing the deceased and pointed to the police where the incident took place and the weapon used. Beyers was arrested on the scene.”

Mahanjana said Beyers has two previous convictions of theft and perjury.
