Two Equestria men tied up during house burglary
“They assaulted one of the victims with a wheel spanner, repeatedly hitting him in the face.”
Two men were sleeping when burglars broke into their home at a security complex in Equestria in the early hours of Thursday, May 12.
The two burglars, armed with a firearm, raided the house at around 02:30 in the morning, according to Silverton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mculu.
Mculu said one of the burglars held the victims at gunpoint while the other one robbed them of their belongings.
“The burglars used cellphone chargers to tie up the victims inside their apartment unit.
“They assaulted one of the victims with a wheel spanner, repeatedly hitting him in the face,” he said.
One of the men (54) was hospitalised as he sustained injuries on his face.
Mculu said the victims were robbed of four cellphones and jewellery of an undisclosed value.
He said no arrests have been made.
This was reportedly the second incident of this nature that happened at the complex in three weeks.
Mculu urged residents to take note of the following safety tips:
– Don’t leave the windows open and doors unlocked when you go to sleep
– In most cases, windows are used to gain access.
– Criminals usually want cellphones and jewellery, don’t hesitate to give them what they want so that they can leave.
– Make sure you cooperate. Give them what they ask, especially when they are armed. Your life is far more precious.
Police urged anyone who might have information regarding this matter to call crime stop on 08600 10111.
