New sinkhole detour will take Centurion residents through local business’ premises
This alternative route will alleviate traffic in the area.

A local Centurion businessman has made arrangements with the metro so that Lyttelton Manor residents can drive through the premises of a local driving school to bypass a sinkhole on Kruger Road.
Kruger Road was closed in April for geological investigations by the metro.
Local businessman and resident Erno Janse van Rensburg struck a deal with the metro and the driving school to allow commuters to drive through their premises as an alternative route.
Residents who have to use Kruger Road can drive around and use Ergon Street and then into River Road to make their way around the sinkhole.
It would take an estimated two years to repair the sinkhole, according to Janse van Rensburg.
“This is a very busy road and this sinkhole is huge. There are many businesses in the area and they are sadly losing a lot of revenue due to the hole.
“Hopefully, with this route open, we are saving people a lot of time,” he said.

According to Tshwane metro spokesperson Lendela Mashigo, the sinkhole formed on March 10.
The sinkhole was the expansion of another one and was caused by heavy rainfall.
“The sinkhole is on the municipality’s priority list for repairs,” said Mashigo.
Geological drilling investigations were finished and the sinkhole repair report was being finalised.
This will decide how the sinkhole would be repaired and how long it would take before the road was reopened.
Centurion has a total of 37 sinkholes.
