Metro plans to repair dangerous hole in Nina Park
A water leak resulted in a hole big enough for a fast-food delivery motorcycle to fall into.
A water leak in Nina Park, Akasia that resulted in a hole big enough for a fast-food delivery motorcycle to fall into will finally be repaired this week, said the Tshwane metro.
The leak was reported in February this year but the task was still open on its system as it still has to be addressed, according to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
“We are aware of the leak and efforts have been underway to address it,” said Mashigo.

Mashigo said it was an intricate leak but repairable; “the team will continue with the repairs next week Thursday”.
“The leak, which is posing a serious challenge, is coming from a 300mm socket isolation gate valve. Resources and materials had to be procured to repair it.”
He added that the barrier tape that was placed around the hole, was now damaged.
“The City will put a solid barrier around it again to secure the hole.”
This followed after resident Louis du Preez reported that a Mr Delivery courier fell into the 1.6m water-filled hole on Wednesday.

The hole is located on Jan Frederick Avenue where Du Preez can view it from his home.
“Residents tried to find the courier’s cellphone, but to no avail.”
Du Preez, as well as his neighbour, Zenzele Mzisa, said the hole has been reported by residents numerous times, but that they were informed the metro does not have the correct fittings to repair the leak.
The leak is located in the main pipeline of water supply to Nina Park and its neighbouring suburb.

“The hole is 1.6m deep, and the level of the water today was 1.2m after we tried to empty it while looking for the phone.
“Someone can drown or get seriously injured,” he warned.
He said several children in the neighbourhood use the road.
