Tankers sent to Tshwane areas without water for past few days
Tau urged the communities to use water sparingly and to approach their ward councillors if there is a water shortage.
The Tshwane metro said it would send available tankers to areas in Pretoria which have been without any water for several days.
This was after the metro’s contract with water tanker services expired on May 13, according to human settlements MMC Abel Tau.
Tau noted isolated reports of water shortages as a result of insufficient water tankers in the Rooiwal and Marikana areas and the Mooiplaats and Marry Me areas.
“We have been busy with the administrative work throughout the weekend to ensure that the contract transition runs smoothly,” he said.

“The metro wants to ensure that the contractors are back in service and continue providing water,” he said.
During this period, some areas were not covered and did not receive water.
“To address this matter, the metro has put mitigating measures in place by sending available tankers.
“The tankers were sent to fill the gap at specified areas to ensure that everyone is provided water,” he said.

Further communication on introducing the new contractor to communities will be done through the affected ward councillors.
“The department apologises for the inconvenience that has arisen from this transition. We would like to thank the affected residents for their patience,” he said.
Tau urged the communities to use water sparingly and to approach their ward councillors if there was a water shortage.
He also urged them to co-operate with the metro during the water tanker contract transition.
