Crime drop in Sunnyside as law enforcement works together

“Muckleneuk, Lucasrand, Groenkloof and sector 6 in general have seen a significant decline in crime including serious crimes such as robberies with aggravating circumstances as well as burglary and other property-related crimes.”

There has been a significant decline in crime due to the Sunnyside police and various stakeholders working together in Sector 6 including areas such as Muckleneuk, Lucasrand and Groenkloof.

This was brought to light during a well-attended community meeting (imbizo) on Wednesday, hosted by Sunnyside police station commander Brigadier Matshidiso Kgoadi at the Quin and Bull restaurant in Groenkloof, east of Pretoria.

The meeting was attended by more than 60 people including, among others, community members, Sunnyside CPF, TMPD, ward councillor Shaun Wilkinson and security companies.

“Muckleneuk, Lucasrand, Groenkloof and sector 6 in general have seen a significant decline in crime including serious crimes such as robberies with aggravating circumstances as well as burglary and other property-related crimes.”

She gave credit to the police visibility on the ground and a good partnership with the stakeholders.

“Continue to keep us (the police) on our toes.”

Kgoadi said the imbizo served as a platform for strengthening a good working relationship between the police and various stakeholders.

It aims to encourage more community members to work together with police as it “portrayed the significance of integrated approach in prevention and combating crime in the area”, she added.

“The meeting gives the residents an opportunity to express their opinions and make a meaningful contribution to the safety in our community.”

Sunnyside CPF spokesperson Caroline Oyiya commended the good work that had been done by the sector 6 CPF, ward councillor Wilkinson, the police and other stakeholders.

“As Sunnyside CPF, we will support crime-fighting initiatives by the police as well as law enforcement by the metro police,” Oyiya said.

She said she was excited to see stakeholders taking crime seriously and fighting it.

“Our success depends on working together.”

Councillor Shaun Wilkinson praised Brigadier Kgoadi, who has just recently joined Sunnyside police, for putting her energy and enthusiasm in the Sunnyside policing precinct.

“The new broom sweeps clean,” councillor Wilkinson said.

He commended Brigadier Kgoadi for leading a team consisting of police, metro police, CPF and other stakeholders cleaning the streets of Sunnyside last week.

“There has been a marked improvement in visibility, accessibility, communication and action,” Wilkinson said.

“The community is in safe hands under the leadership of Brigadier Kgoadi.”
