Brothers, cousins keep Moot parks neat and tidy
"We hope that what we do for the Moot community is noticed. We encourage community members to get involved."

The Van de Wetering brothers and cousins started a clean-up operation to renovate the various parks in the Moot.
About a year ago, Hans decided to maintain Totiusdal Park in Dickenson Avenue, where he regularly jogs.
Soon after his clean-up, he bought his lawnmower to mow the lawn as well as keep the sidewalks neat. Hans, who does not hesitate to do his part for the community’s brother André decided to lend a hand as well.
He cuts the grass in the park in Breyer Avenue at the Waverley Tennis Club. The monthly Market in the Park is also held here.
Cousins Gerrit, Leon-Paul and Gerben, who all live in Waverley, heard about their family members’ contribution, and also offered their services.
Decent equipment such as a delivery vehicle, an industrial lawnmower and all sorts of other equipment has been purchased and a team is busy daily in the various parks where they are working hard to keep the Moot area tidy.
They also maintain Chris Steyn Park at the library on Cunningham Avenue and the eastern park on Breyer Avenue.
Potgieterpark in Rietfontein, home of the Hollandia football club and the Pieter Human Park west of the municipal retirement village in Villieria, in Meyer Street is also on their daily to-do list.
The members also maintain the area in Meyer Street north of the Oos-Moot’s retirement village.
They have removed tonnes of cut grass and garbage.

With the winter season already on our doorstep, they have added more areas to their list such as the Tom Jenkinspark east of Potgieterpark and intend to tackle other areas such as the grass south of the Vergenoeg home for seniors in Cunningham Avenue.
The scope of work has expanded tremendously and recently the family members asked Hugo Burgers to get involved as project manager. He oversees the work, with the support of cousin Gerrit, who is done by Sam Gumede as a foreman with three assistants.
“We hope that what we do for the Moot community is noticed. We encourage community members to get involved.
“We want to encourage everyone to look after their environment, keep the area tidy and encourage each other to get involved in community actions.
“Everyone can make a difference,” said the family members.
For further information on how to get involved, Hugo Burgers can be contacted at parkies@afrit.co.za.
