SPCA urgently needs public’s help
Several of its branches have fallen victim to break-ins and burglaries recently.

The SPCA has asked for the public’s financial help after several of its branches have fallen victim to break-ins and burglaries.
“Our branches are located in industrial areas that pose a high risk for crime,” said Dewald Wahlstrand , a spokesperson for the SPCA Tshwane Waltloo branch.
“The Waltloo branch, in particular, has been a target.
“This resulted in increased security costs to keep our staff and animals safe, as well as an increase in insurance premiums.”
A continued decline in its income in recent months has left them in a precarious financial situation.
Wahlstrand said despite active lobbying, the SPCA does not receive any funding from the government or the Tshwane municipality.
“The society is reliant on the residents’ support to ensure continued service to the community,” he said.
Their financial situation can also be attributed to the widespread stressed economy whereby many households were impacted.
“There is a significant increase in the number of pets that are surrendered to our branches that result in increased kennel costs,” he said.
Wahlstrand said the goods donations to their charity shops and markets have drastically reduced, which resulted in reduced sales income.
Despite these difficult financial circumstances, their staff remain positive and are readily available to assist all animals.
“Without this support, we will not be able to meet all our financial obligations fully for May,” Wahlstrand said.
Donations can be done securely online at spcapta.org.za/donate-now/ or directly into the SPCA Tshwane account. Send your proof of payment to fundraising@spcapta.org.za.
