Police traces and arrests 338 wanted suspects over weekend
Among the 338 suspects, 102 were detained for gender-based violence-related cases.
Law enforcement in Tshwane District, including various police units, arrested over 470 persons during multidisciplinary operations this weekend.
The various operations were led by Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Kushie Pietersen, police senior management and various law enforcement agencies, according to police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
“Detectives conducted simultaneous tracing of wanted suspects throughout Tshwane and managed to arrest 338 suspects. Among those, 102 were detained for gender-based violence-related cases.
“Additional successes for the entire district included undocumented persons (47 arrested); unlicensed liquor outlets closed down (12); drug-related crimes (37); driving under the influence of alcohol (25); and consuming alcohol in public (36).”
Selepe said on Friday afternoon Olievenhoutbosch police’s crime prevention spotted a suspicious white Toyota Etios with three occupants.
“The vehicle was stopped and the driver ran away. Searching the vehicle led to a pistol with a serial number filed-off with four rounds and one magazine being recovered,” she said.
“Furthermore, it was discovered that the vehicle had false number plates. The driver’s licence was found and the third suspect was arrested soon after that.
“Two occupants were detained and charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
She said on Saturday they also stood firm against lawlessness during a high-density operation in Olievenhoutbosch.
“In Erasmia, two suspects who are terrorising the community were arrested after an armed robbery. The duo will be in the dock for possession of an unlicensed firearm and armed robberies.
“While in Pretoria Central a man (aged 28) was arrested for rape during the Vuthu Hawe operation.
“In Villeria, a stolen vehicle was recovered and the suspect was detained.”
Selepe said other successful arrests included possession of drugs; common robbery; malicious property damage; illegal possession of a firearm; assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm; contravention of the Road Traffic Act; possession of suspected stolen goods; murder; reckless driving; attempted business robbery; contravention of protection order; common assault; theft; dealing in liquor without a licence; shoplifting; carjacking and attempted murder.
Brigadier Pietersen thanked police management, all officers (especially the junior officers), and law enforcement agencies including the Department of Correctional Service, the Department of Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic Department, TMPD, and CPF “for their continuous collaboration in the fight against crime”.
Selepe encouraged the community to continue to be vigilant at all times and to co-operate with police in their fight against crime and to report suspicious conduct on 10111.
