Laudium man stabbed during house break-in

Five men broke into the house and stabbed one of the residents during an altercation.

A Laudium man was stabbed in the leg during a house break-in while one of the suspects was shot several times allegedly by members of the community on Tuesday morning, May 24.

Speaking to Rekord, Mohammed Amin, a response officer at Laudium Disaster Management (LDM), said five men broke into a house on Taj Street at 06:00, demanding items from the five family members who were present in the house.

Amin said a member of the family was stabbed in the leg during an altercation with the criminals.

“Members of the community were quickly alerted about the house break-in and went to help.

“One of the suspects was then shot by a community member,” he said.

Amin said Laudium police were on the scene and arrested another suspect as well as the injured suspect who is currently in hospital.

He said the other three suspects, however, fled the scene.

LDM members treated the stabbed victim on the scene. He was later transported to the hospital for further medical attention.

Laudium police spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe confirmed police were on the scene but could not provide further details.
