TMPD arrest man for possession of stolen cables

The cables were confirmed to be stolen from Telkom.

Tshwane metro police (TMPD) arrested a man for possession of stolen cables on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Issac Mahamba said they responded to a complaint from an owner of a scrapyard in the north of Pretoria.

“The complaint was about a suspected stolen cable,” he said.

“The owner had previously warned his employees not to buy cables illegally.

“One of the employees disregarded his employer and brought in suspected stolen cables.”

That is when the owner contacted TMPD officers.

Mahamba said when the TMPD arrived, they checked the cables and confirmed they were stolen from Telkom.

“The employee was then arrested for possession of stolen cables and will appear in court soon.”

Mahamba said they will continue to fight cable theft, which has serious repercussions of damaging essential infrastructure.

He applauded the team for the great work done.
