The Pads-Me-Up Campaign intends to collect hygiene products to ease the burden on underprivileged children.
Learners at the Kgomotso Comprehensive high school in Soshanguve received toiletries during a heart-warming visit by the School for Military Training (SMT) on June 9.
South African National Defence Force spokesperson Brigadier-General Mongezi Kweta said “empowerment” of the girls and boys was behind the initiative.

“The programme of the day was focused on empowering learners by showcasing the possibilities and opportunities within the South African Military Health Service.
“Learners were equipped with much-needed information and life skills.
Kweta said access to female hygiene products is one of the timeless challenges young people have faced in impoverished areas for many years.
“In South Africa, many young women are forced to miss school due to the lack of sanitary towels, affecting their educational development and potential.
“The Pads-Me-Up campaign intends to collect hygiene products to ease the burden on underprivileged children.

Kweta said the initiative was made possible by members of various military training courses and staff at the School for Military Training.
“The Show-and-Tell programme was well-prepared by different professionals ranging from chefs, physical training instructors, social workers and doctors.
“Military instructors, communication officers and musicians also interacted with the learners.

He said the professionals showcased their specialities and requirements for the matriculants who want to take ad vantage of these life-changing opportunities.
