Police arrested three men for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs in Soshanguve on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested by two public order police officers at the corner of M17 and Ruth First Road in Block TT Soshanguve, according to police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
Selepe said the area is one of the area’s hijacking hotspots.
“The two members stopped a suspicious Toyota Hilux with three men inside.
“Upon searching the vehicle, the police found two plastic bags, one with dagga and another bag with packaged balls of dagga.
She said the driver was also found in possession of a loaded .38 Special revolver with five live rounds inside and the serial number filed off.
“The suspects, aged between 29 and 42, were immediately arrested and charged with possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm.”
Selepe said the Toyota Hilux was confiscated for further investigations.
She said the men are to be profiled with the possibility of being linked to another case.
Tshwane acting district commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine thanked the two officers for their vigilance and swift reaction which led to the arrests.
Thine said the firearm will be sent for forensic ballistic tests to assess if it was used in serious crimes.
“Police urge members of the community to keep on reporting criminal activities on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPSApp to provide tip-offs anonymously,” said Selepe
