Mabopane fire department temporarily closed due to electrical fault
The Mabopane fire station was temporarily closed on Wednesday due to an electrical fault that made the building unsafe for workers.
The Mabopane fire station was temporarily closed on Wednesday due to an electrical fault that made the building unsafe for workers.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said workers reported that the electrical fault affected parts of the building.
He said electricians were called to investigate and repair the problem.
“The electricians determined that the electrical supply to the station remained live and energised even when switches on the distribution board were turned off,” he said.
“They then advised that the staff should evacuate the building until the problem was solved.”
Mabaso said the fire and rescue personnel from the Mabopane fire station will temporarily respond from the Jabulani fire station in Soshanguve.
He added that the Ga-Rankuwa and Rosslyn fire stations will serve as a backup, while the electrical fault receives attention from electricians.
Later on Wednesday, Eskom officials were at the fire station to assess and fix the electrical fault outside the building.
He said the fault inside the building has not been resolved yet, but that Tshwane metro electricians will be working on the issue.
Mabaso urged residents to report and call fire and rescue emergencies on the 107 toll-free number.
“We apologise for the inconvenience as this may affect our response times around Mabopane and Winterveldt,” he said.
