An elderly man (75) was tied up, beaten, and robbed in a brutal attack in his home in Kameeldrift West.

A group of armed men brutally attacked an elderly man in his home in Kameeldrift West before they tied him up, beat him and robbed him.
Just before midnight on Tuesday, the man, Mauritz van den Heever (75) from Kameeldrift West, was attacked by three or four armed men in his home on Ash Street.
Van den Heever was hit with the assailants’ weapons and tied up while the robbers searched his home taking what they wanted.

For hours, the robbers helped themselves. They packed Van den Heever’s bakkie with valuables such as TVs, computers, food and blankets.
Once they had helped themselves to Van den Heever’s belongings, they tried to leave but could not start his vehicle.
Van den Heever could hear as the robbers organised alternative transport, and transferred his belongings to the new vehicle.
The injured Van den Heever was discovered by his wife at about 07:00, still tied up.
He was taken to hospital. Van den Heever has since been released from hospital, but is still in severe pain, with injuries all over his body, especially on his face.
The SAPS is investigating but has no leads at the time.
Chairperson for the Hercules CPF, Nico van Vuuren, said that this is the second incident of this nature in a week.
Just a few days before, a man was killed after he was shot. The man’s employer rushed him to hospital after he was discovered, but the succumbed to his injuries.
Van Vuuren said that this should act as a wake-up call that community members are not safe.
