A security guard, working at a business close to a well-known smallholding in Uitzicht AH near Kameeldrift, was viciously assaulted with a bolt cutter in the early hours of Monday morning, October 31.
It was the third such attack in the area in the past two weeks.
The security guard was robbed of his cellphone and solar panels from the smallholding were also stolen.

The security company that the guard works for said that some solar panels were removed but left behind.
The man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday morning to recover at home.
A case of assault and robbery has been opened with the police.

Hercules CPF chairperson Nico van Vuuren urged residents to be vigilant.
“Please be on the lookout. Any item such as fuel, generators, solar panels, batteries, etc. that can provide power is in high demand.”
He also urged security companies and employers of security guards to alert their guards.
“One guard is no longer sufficient.”
Van Vuuren was alarmed at the rise in brutal robberies in the area.
Last week Tuesday, a group of armed men brutally attacked an elderly man in his home in Kameeldrift West before they tied him up, beat him and robbed him.

Only a few days before, on October 21, a man was killed after he was shot at a nearby plot. The man’s employer rushed him to hospital after he was discovered, but he died of his injuries.
Van Vuuren was concerned about the crime in the area.
“We stay in a rural area of the Hercules SAPS precinct.
“Now is the time is now for police minister Bheki Cele to stand up and rise to the SAPS’s slogan of to protect and serve.
“We need him to look after the police stations. They need more vehicles, more manpower and more visibility.”
He warned that with the approaching festive season residents should expect a rise in crime and more such attacks.
