Three-day long Portuguese festival left residents wanting more

The second day of the Portuguese festival was a hive with family activities for its patrons

The second day of the Portuguese festival was a hive with family activities for its patrons.

The three-day festival ran from Friday, March 17 until Sunday, March 19 at the Royal Elephant Hotel.

The event was attended by many first-time attendees, like Gary Richter who told Rekord the scenery was perfect for mingling and meeting new people.

“The weather is beautiful and one is going to have great conversations here. It’s my first time here, and I must say it’s a nice atmosphere,” Richter said.

The Govendor family said the event was a great way to bond, adding that it was also a way of getting to know and understand their kids.

“The atmosphere is really good and there are lots of things one can do. The setup is really family-oriented,” said the family.

Cancer survivors from Cansa also supported the event.

Mamarey Makhutle said the event was a great way for spreading awareness of cancer.

“As cancer survivors, we felt the need to be a part of the event to teach people about the dangers of cancer if left untreated,” Makhutle said.

She revealed that the biggest challenge was to get men to open up about their experiences with cancer, especially prostate cancer.
