Parts of Menlo Park hit by water outage
Traffic is diverted into only one lane because the pipe burst severely damaged the road.

Parts of Menlo Park have been hit by a water outage owing to a pipe burst.
According to a local councilor the taps have been running dry since Thursday.
“After the pipe was repaired on 16th Street and water was opened it became apparent that the pipe running underneath Justice Mahomed and Thomas Edison Streets was also leaking,” said councilor Siobhan Muller.

Muller said the burst pipe on Justice Mahomed and Thomas Edison was impacting traffic.
“The City’s water technicians need to open a part of the tar road in order to establish the leak underneath.
“Traffic is diverted into only one lane because the damage to the road is quite severe and will be a huge challenge during peak hours,” Muller said.

She said due to the nature of the pipe burst repair work will take some time.
“The original coupling is still leaking and further repairs need to take place.
“With this kind of burst everything needs to be done slowly to avoid damage to other pipes.”
Muller said the timeline to fix the pipe and to restore water is not known at this stage.
She advised people to use provided water for the interim and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
