Family offers R20k reward for missing dog

The search for Mielie has stretched to a near nationwide effort.

A Middelburg family is offering a reward of R20 000 to anyone who can help find their missing dog, Mielie.

Mielie (3) is a crossbreed between an Australian cattle dog and a short-leg fox terrier that went missing on February 6 from the family’s farm in Middelburg.

The family believes that Mielie was abducted by someone in the area.

The search for the dog has stretched to a near nationwide effort.

“We have already done everything we can to find her,” said Marthina, who is part of the search operation.

“We had a helicopter, tracker dogs and drones look for her.

“The search party also handed out 30 000 pamphlets containing Mielie’s information.”

Marthina said they searched the area every day, going from farm to farm in hopes of finding any traces of the missing dog.

She wants to spread information about the dog as far as possible.

According to Marthina, Mielie was running after Zebras where she was possible picked up by someone along the route.

“There has to be someone somewhere in this area who has seen him.

“We are expanding the search as wide as we can until we find the person who took him.”

She believes Mielie is still alive.

“If he were dead, the dogs would have found his body a long time ago, so Mielie is still out there.”
