Two people die in R50 car crash near Delmas Road

Bad weather and other circumstances caused the situation to worsen, which caused a secondary collision amid the traffic jam.

Two people were fatally injured in a car crash on the R50 near Delmas Road on Friday morning.

According to responding paramedic service Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the accident happened around 07:00.

Paramedics declared the two dead.

“Two others were treated for moderate injuries and taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” the statement read.

Van Reenen said there were two crashes first, two vehicles collided and one overturned, in the resultant traffic jam, a secondary collision occurred where people were injured.

He however said these were moderate injuries and the people were treated on the scene before being transported to local hospitals for further medical attention.

Van Reenen said the paramedics worked tirelessly to make sure the injured received the proper care.

Arrive Alive gives the following tips on how to drive safely in adverse weather conditions:

– Make sure you can see. If you cannot see a safe distance ahead you should not be driving.

– In traffic with limited visibility, you should also be able to listen to traffic.

– Avoid loud music on the radio and other driver distractions.

– Avoid driver fatigue by keeping the vehicle well-ventilated.

– Only drive when well rested – you will need all your concentration when driving in extreme weather.
