Four suspects were arrested yesterday by the Hawks on charges of corruption.
This comes after the case was reported to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation and involved two members from the Silverton K9, a member from Crime Intelligence, and a business.
According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, the suspects are reported to have participated in corrupt activities where they solicited gratification to the tune of R580,000.
“This was for a complainant to avoid arrest. It is alleged that three officials went to the complainant’s residence to enquire about her passport and the alleged fraudulent stamps.”
He added, “They later arrested her and, during questioning, hints relating to the case being dropped if money exchanged hands were spoken of by the trio.”
He added that the officers had asked for R1 million compounded with threats of her son also being arrested, the complainant gave in, and R580 000 was agreed to resulting in the complainant being released.
The suspects will be appearing in the Randburg Magistrates Court on charges of corruption.
