Bubbly media personality extends her horizons in 2024

Multitalented media personality Kriya Gangia, famous for her Formula One podcast, is looking towards conquering another horizon in 2024 – that of being a nail salon entrepreneur. Blending a variety of talents and skills and a real challenge is what she loves.

As a TV host of a programme on motor racing and with her podcast on the sport, F1: Track This, Kriya Gangiah is bringing fans closer to the racing action.

“It’s the glitz and the glamour. It’s a full package show,” says the vivacious Gangiah.

This alumna of Pretoria High School for Girls broke into the TV industry as a presenter on eTV’s Craze-E.

Fans of her podcast can listen to this seasoned broadcaster’s interviews with drivers and pit crew.

There is also often an in-depth background look at what is happening at the pit stops of the F1 tracks around the world.

She recently discussed the race of the season, took a look at racing in Brazil and looked at who will replace Sergio Perez.

It is only now and again that you will detect that, even though a seasoned reporter, there is a bit of favouritism towards one specific driver.

“I have to stay impartial but everyone knows I love Daniel Ricciardo,” says the sparkling media personality.

She also regularly forms part of the live broadcast of racing on SuperSport. She calls herself a “major petrolhead”.

With her F1 podcast, she has a specific goal in mind.

“I want to make Formula One easy to understand for motorsport fanatics. Essentially you should be able to listen to a podcast and then stand around the braai with your mates and talk about all things F1,” says Gangiah.

Her knowledge of the sport was not acquired overnight.

“I grew up watching F1 with my dad on Sundays and the love for the sport grew from there,” says this Tukkies bachelor of information science and multimedia graduate.

She has not always been a sports presenter. After her popular shows on TuksFM, she made radio waves on Jacaranda FM with the Breakfast Extra Show and her show, Kriya Gangiah.

“I love making personal connections with people and radio gives you the medium to do that,” she says of the magic of her beloved medium.

She started acting at an early age, participating in theatre productions from primary school through high school eventually joining the Pretoria Youth Theatre in 2005.

She is currently also heard on radio station 947. Media is her life.

“I love what I do. They always say if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,” she says.

She is always ready to break new ground and will soon also once again break into the business world.

Gangiah, who already owns a digital marketing business, will soon open a nail salon in Pretoria.

But it is not just business for Gangiah, who has a strong sense of the social issues that matter to her.

“I support several animal charities. These are close to my heart, every year we host an event called Bark in the Park to raise funds for a Pretoria-based charity,” says the Brooklyn brunette.

When it comes to taking the wheel herself she loves driving away on a weekend in her strong sedan with the dogs in the back.

“We love doing weekends away with the dogs and our strong and dependable car makes travelling easy,” says Gangiah.

She developed a skill for sports as well, achieving provincial and national colours for water polo.

If she is not on the road or talking about those on the F1 track, you will find her cooking up a storm in the kitchen as she did during the recent Diwali festivities.

Kriya’s burfee lamingtons

An all-time favourite to prepare is burfee lamingtons.

“I love to get into the kitchen and whip up something delicious to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights and, this year, I decided to blend my love for Indian and South African cuisines,” says Gangiah.

“To me Diwali this year as always was a time for sharing and celebrating with our loved ones, and what better way to do that than with delicious homemade treats?”

She says her lamingtons are a fusion of South African and Indian flavours. It’s a unique and mouth-watering combination.

Reconciling all the sides of who she is, and planning to be, is not a challenge to this multi-faceted professional.

“When you are creative, you find ways to express it in every area of your life.”
