Jabulane Christian Academy in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, affectionately known as JCA, proudly welcomed its new principal and deputy principal recently.
JCA in the Dinokeng Game Reserve has added Gregory Colin as its head and his deputy Karen van Zyl to the leadership team.
The mission of the independent Christian primary school, registered with the Gauteng Department of Education and accredited by Umalusi, is to equip students with a solid education grounded in Biblical principles.
Rooted in a foundation of academic excellence and Christian values, it is committed to providing a nurturing learning environment for learners in grades R to 7 to thrive, both academically and spiritually.
Van Zyl, an educator with a heart for children and a dedication to learning, brings a rich background in theology and education to her role as deputy principal. She has years of experience in children’s ministry and a passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
She is poised to contribute to the continued growth and success of the school.
“I firmly believe that all children can learn. The why and the how are just different for each child, and as teachers, we should discover and nurture each learner’s different abilities,“ Van Zyl shared.
She also has a great passion for remedial teaching and education of learners with special needs. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Education Honours in learning support.
Hailing from the Hartbeespoort Dam area, new headmaster Colin brings with him a profound sense of purpose and dedication to serving others.
His journey in education has been marked by diverse experiences, from teaching English and coaching rugby at a high school in Johannesburg to a transformative tenure in Saudi Arabia that influenced his perspective on teaching.
After two years as a teacher at JCA, during which he served as Head of Department, he received the opportunity to assume the role of principal.
Colin said he is guided by his faith in Jesus Christ and a fervent commitment to spreading the gospel of Christ.
His leadership style is characterised by humility, integrity, and a deep-seated passion for discipleship. “I would love to see our school grow into a high school one day where the same quality education is taught from a Biblical worldview,” he said.
The JCA family said it was delighted to welcome Colin and Van Zyl, adding that their passion for education, unwavering faith, and commitment to student success made them invaluable assets to the school community.
