Police intercept suspected hijacked vehicle en route to Zim
Police believe the suspect was previously involved in smuggling stolen vehicles out of South Africa.
A police anti-smuggling operation has recovered a vehicle reported hijacked in Soshanguve.
Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said on March 4, law enforcement held an operation along N1 South, near the Shell Ultra City.
Ledwaba said the police crime intelligence unit had then tipped off officers in the operation that a 25-year-old man was driving a suspected stolen vehicle from Gauteng en route to Zimbabwe via Beitbridge.
He said the team, comprising a police tracking team, murder and robbery investigators, as well as private security personnel, intercepted the vehicle.

The man was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and violating the Immigration Act.
Ledwaba said the silver Isuzu KB 4×4 valued at R400 000 he was driving was impounded.
“The suspect is alleged to have previously been involved in smuggling multiple 4×4 vehicles out of the country,” he said.
“The charges he faces include possession of a stolen motor vehicle, contravention of the Immigration Act and reckless and negligent driving.”
He said a preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was hijacked in Soshanguve on March 1.
