The latest crime stats identified the following three hotspots where the most sexual assaults and rapes are reported in Tshwane.

Here are the three hotspots where the most sexual assaults and rapes are reported in Tshwane. 

Police minister Bheki Cele has presented the latest crime statistics for South Africa, covering the first quarter of the 2023/24 administrative year, which runs from October to December 2023.

Here is the breakdown of the reported cases: 

Sexual Offences: 

  • Temba Tshwane District – 59 cases were reported from October to December 2023. 
  • Mamelodi East Tshwane District – 51 cases were reported from October to December 2023.

Rape:

  • Temba Tshwane District – 46 cases were reported from October to December 2023. 

Sexual Assaults:

  • Temba Tshwane District – 11 cases were reported from October to December 2023. 
  • Mabopane Tshwane District – 10 cases were reported from October to December 2023. 

The crime statistics revealed an increase in all three of these serious crimes in Tshwane.

People Opposed to Woman Abuse (Powa)

Powa provides counselling, both over the phone and in person, temporary shelter for and legal help to women who have experienced violence.

Families South Africa (Famsa)

Famsa provides counselling and education to help improve marriages and families. It helps in cases of domestic violence and trauma, divorces and mediation. There are 27 offices across the country.

Tears Foundation

TEARS Foundation provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse.

Thuthuzela Care Centres

Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs) are one-stop facilities that have been introduced as a critical part of South Africa’s anti-rape strategy, aiming to reduce secondary victimisation and to build a case ready for successful prosecution. The website also provides access to information on gender-based violence.
