Five arrested in TMPD operation in Hammanskraal

During the operation on Friday, April 5 about 116 vehicles were searched and inspected.

Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) arrested five suspects in Hammanskraal during an operation on Friday.

According to TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, Region Two members in Hammanskraal conducted an operation where about 116 vehicles were searched and inspected.

“The members issued 51 infringement fines,” said Mahamba.

He added that five people were arrested, of which one driver was arrested for drunk driving, three people were arrested for public drinking, and one person was arrested for interfering with the instructions of officers.

He said the TMPD has intensified road safety operations and that these are conducted regularly in all Tshwane regions.

According to him, “This initiation is aimed at reducing crime, unlawful behaviour and reduction of road fatalities, and it has proved to be very effective given the daily success updates that the TMPD has been issuing.”

Apart from these operations, TMPD is also mandated to enforce by-laws in the Tshwane.

He said illegal dumping is one of the issues that the TMPD is tackling, saying, “In the Centurion area, one person was issued with an R5000 fine for disposing of waste in an unauthorised place.”

According to Mahamba, this should serve as a warning to people who dump illegally.

He urged members of the public to report illegal dumping to TMPD on 012 358 7095/6.

“It is advisable to also have details such as a number plate, date, place, and description of the vehicle that is dumping for the purpose of tracing such a vehicle to issue a fine and enforcing the law.”
