Help Animal Ambulance finish fence project

The non-profit organisation is a 24hr emergency shelter for sick and abused animals.

The Animal Ambulance hosted a movie night with dogs to raise funds for its Build the Wall charity drive on April 6.

The centre in Murray Hill, north of Pretoria, raised funds through a movie night to get building materials to continue building their boundary wall.

According to Animal Ambulance manager Katia van Dyk, the event also raised funds for the care of the animals.

“We hosted a movie night and the dogs enjoyed a movie called School of Rock.

We hosted this movie night because we want to raise funds to finish our boundary wall,” said Van Dyk.

The funds will allow Animal Ambulance to add 40m of the wall to the existing parameter each year.

Van Dyk said the completion of the wall will not only ensure that none of the beautiful animals can be stolen.

“This will allow it to be safe, where animals can roam around freely without fearing for their lives.

We currently have 250 animals in our care and it is our responsibility to make sure that each is taken care of,” she said.

She said the centre, which is a rescue sanctuary for abused animals, takes pride in providing a safe environment for the animals.

“Somehow, the animals find their way to us and the wall will help us keep our mandate that we have towards each animal.

We hope to see this project that has been ongoing for years complete but that will require immense support from our community and volunteers,” she said.

The animal shelter, established 22 years ago, has survived entirely on donations from volunteers and fundraising events.

The shelter is aimed at aiding abused and sick animals.

“The animals are treated as family and are kept outdoors or in a kennel.

“Not enough funds have been coming in for us to cover all our expenses and we desperately need more supporters,” she said.
