Water meter audits conducted in north to ensure clean water supply

The water audit drive initiative comes after the recent launch of the Magalies Water Package Plant.

Tshwane metro has commenced with the water audit drive in Hammanskraal this week.

The initiative comes after the recent launch of the Magalies Water Package Plant.

The initiative aims to ensure that clean water will be supplied efficiently to the residents of Hammanskraal by September.

According to Deputy Mayor Nasiphi Moya, the audit team started their work in Hammanskraal West and is scheduled to cover all affected areas by July 31.

“Following the auditing process, water meter replacements and new meter installations will be concluded by September 30, as more meters might be identified for replacement during the audit,” said Moya.

Moya said metro officials and contracted service providers will also collect data in the area.

Hammanskraal residents are urged to contact the metro on 012 358 9062 to confirm the auditors’ identities.

“This will involve opening and closing water taps, recording water meter numbers and readings, and confirming physical and street addresses.

“The metro calls on residents to co-operate with officials and service providers during the audit process.”

Moya said is it important for residents to allow access to their yards for the necessary inspections.

“A successful audit will ensure the metro’s water systems are prepared to receive and supply water to the affected areas.

“We will ensure we deliver metered drinking tap water for the people of Hammanskraal,” said Moya.

The metro also promised households supplied by the Rooiwal water treatment plant that they would get consistent, reliable, and clean water in their homes by September.

Mayor Cilliers Brink visited the treatment plant as part of an oversight function last week.

The controversial plant is undergoing upgrades and refurbishments.
