Woman shot in Moreleta Park during food delivery

According to Garsfontein police, when the delivery motorbike stopped at her house around 20:30, the victim came out to collect the food, which ended with shots being fired.

A 40-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach during an alleged armed robbery in Moreleta Park, east of Pretoria on the evening of April 19.

According to Garsfontein police, the victim was shot in Suurkaree Street in Moretela Park after she had ordered food online when she was accosted by three armed men.

“When the delivery motorbike stopped at her house around 20:30, the victim came out to collect the food. An unknown white vehicle drove past and made a U-turn and stopped at the gate,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot.

Lightfoot said one suspect got out of the white car and demanded the victim’s phone.

“The suspect fired two shots at her which hit her in the stomach. The victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance for medical treatment,” he said.

Lightfoot said the suspect ran to the vehicle and sped off, however, the car was later involved in an accident on Jacques Street, in Moretela Park.

“By the time the detectives of Garsfontein SAPS who responded to the complainant were informed of the accident, they rushed towards them. The suspects emerged from the car and started to run away but the police managed to apprehend two out of the three,” stated Lightfoot.

The police found several firearms on the scene.

Lightfoot said a case of attempted murder was opened, and further investigations would begin, and that police and other law enforcement agencies would continue to wage war against criminals.

He urged the community to report any suspicious activity in their area.

The suspects will appear soon in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.
