Retro fair brings back good old memories
Retro Fair brought back good memories of how it used to be watching our old favorite TV programs and music from the 70s and 80s.
Pretoria retro fair was a place to be for retro music, vinyl record, gaming and lounging fundis at the weekend.
The fair on Lebombo Road, Pretoria, was the first monthly fair and was held in conjunction with Freedom Day celebrations.
Noel Opperman of Pretoria Retro Fair said the fair was for people who are in their 40s and 50s to show their children how life was when they were growing up.
He said the event brought smiles and reminded many of them of life when they were young.
“We all grew up in a different South Africa, and Retro Fair brought back good memories of how it used to be watching our old favourite TV programmes and music from the 70s and 80s,” said Opperman.
He said he had the idea of starting the Pretoria Retro Fair because, “everywhere I go, they say everything is happening in Cape Town and Johannesburg”.
“I wanted to create our own special place that brings good memories to Pretoria, which is why I named it Pretoria Retro Fair,” he said.
DJ Trevor entertained the guests with his music collection.
“We did not want to make it like a flea market; it’s actually an event with some lounge areas, nice chairs, cool photo walls, and play areas for children playing arcade games, and colouring books,” said Opperman.
He said that the first monthly fair was a success with a good turnout, and was well-reviewed.
The second will be on May 25, and an extended vendor presence is planned. The event runs from 15:00 until 21:00.
