The patients were found trapped inside the vehicle.

Three passengers were seriously injured and one woman was airlifted to a specialist facility following an accident in the east of Pretoria on Saturday, May 18 at around 21:00.

The accident occurred after one light vehicle and a truck collided.

According to the Tshwane emergency services, a light vehicle struck a truck from behind on the N4 before the Watermeyer offramp.

The exact circumstances around the accident are unknown at this stage.

According to Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso, two women and one man were found critically injured inside the vehicle.

“Emergency Services arrived on the scene and found three patients trapped inside the vehicle.

“They had to use the ‘Jaws of Life’ to extricate the patients from the vehicle,” said Mabaso.

Mabaso said Emergency Services treated and transported a male and a female patient who sustained injuries to the Steve Biko Hospital.

“Another female patient was airlifted by a chopper to Milpark Hospital,” said Mabaso.

The patients were treated and stabilised with the assistance of Tshwane Emergency Services and other emergency services.
