Case of man found with burnt body parts postponed

The suspect was arrested after burnt human body remains were found in his home.

The recent court appearance of a suspect charged with murder has been postponed to November 7.

The suspect appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on October 21, following a shocking discovery of burnt human remains on a residential property.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the incident unfolded on October 16 when the Mabopane SAPS responded to a distress call from a home in Block UX.

Van Dyk said the officers encountered a disturbing scene upon arrival, leading to the discovery of a bag of burnt body parts.

He said the officers met two people outside the residence in Mabopane.

“As the officers entered the house, they detected a strong, unpleasant odour.

“Upon searching the premises, the officers discovered a bag underneath a bed and upon opening the bag, they found burnt body parts resembling human feet.”

Van Dyk said preliminary investigations at the scene indicated that the owner of the house had left earlier that day.

“A track-and-trace operation was promptly initiated to locate the homeowner as a person of interest.

“The detective team, supported by the SAPS Dog Unit and the SAPS Airwing, successfully apprehended the suspect in a nearby veld.”

He said further investigations revealed that the deceased had been reported missing at the Mabopane SAPS on October 8.

“A murder case has been opened and the suspect has been formally charged.”

He said the case was postponed to November 7, pending a medical evaluation and further investigations.

“This postponement has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the crime and the suspect’s mental state, which may play a crucial role in the legal proceedings.”

The district commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, has assured the public that the police are committed to thoroughly investigating the case.

“The police have been working diligently, using various units, including the Dog Unit and Airwing, to piece together evidence and determine the full scope of the events leading to this tragic incident.”
