Possible water interruption due to infrastructure maintenance next Friday
On December 6, the water utility will be conducting maintenance work and there will be no pumping from its system.
Several areas in Pretoria might experience water supply disruptions due to the maintenance of water infrastructure in Gauteng next week Friday, December 6.
Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said Rand Water has notified Tshwane that it plans to maintain the infrastructure at its Mapleton System.
He said the work will be carried out on December 6 from 08:00 to 16:00.
“The planned maintenance work, according to the water utility, is aimed at improving the system’s reliability and efficiency.”
Bokaba said this essential work will result in low pressure or no supply to the Tshwane network supplied by the Mapleton System.
“The water utility has reported that there will be no pumping from its system for the duration of the maintenance work,” Bokaba said.
He added that to mitigate the impact, the city is planning to fill the reservoirs that will be affected, to over 80% a few days before the commencement of the maintenance work.
“However, the water supply may be interrupted during the upkeep period and residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly.”
He said Tshwane technicians will also ensure that the city water sources are operating optimally.
“Roaming water tankers will be dispatched as and when the need arises.”
The following reservoirs and meters will be affected:
– Corobrick Plant
– Carina Street Reservoir
– Garsfontein Reservoir
– Eersterust Reservoir
– Elardus Park Reservoir:
– Kilner Park Reservoir
– Koedoesnek LL Reservoir
– Klapperkop Reservoir
– Waverley LL Reservoir
– Gastonbury Reservoir, Six Fountain Estate and Silver
– Willows/Hatherley meter
– Koedoesnek HL Reservoir
– Midas and Leander meters
– Mooikloof Reservoir
– Sammy Marks Museum meter
– Savannah: Shere meter:
– Woodlands Mall meter:
Bokaba said the city apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of the above-mentioned maintenance work.
The city wishes to remind residents to always adhere to the following water conservation measures:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
– Do not fill swimming pools.
– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
– Take a short shower rather than a bath.
– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
