Crime hotspots in Wierdabrug: Here’s what you need to know
Statistics have been broken down across all three sectors, offering insights into when and where criminal activity is most likely to occur.
The latest crime statistics released by the Wierdabrug Community Policing Forum (CPF) paint a complex picture of public safety in the area, with notable decreases in certain crimes and troubling increases in others.
The statistics, broken down across sectors 1, 2, and 3, offer valuable insights into when and where criminal activity is most likely to occur.
The Wierdabrug chairperson across all three sectors, Daniël van Rooyen said one of the most prominent trends is the increase in common robberies across the policing area, while common assault and sexual offences have seen a decline.
However, he said these crimes continue to occur most frequently between Wednesday and Sunday, specifically during the daytime and evening from 08:00 to 23:59.
Sector 1, which includes Clubview, Hennopspark, and Valhalla, recorded the highest number of common assault and sexual offence cases, with Clubview topping the list.
Van Rooyen said these incidents mostly occurred during late weekdays and over the weekends.
He said residential burglaries were primarily reported on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 04:00 and 07:59, with Clubview and Hennopspark again being the hardest hit.
“Business burglaries occurred mainly on Mondays and Thursdays, concentrated in Hennopspark.
“There were no reported house robberies in Sector 1 during the review period,” said Van Rooyen.
He said house robberies involving firearms and attempted house robberies have decreased, while robberies with other weapons showed an increase.
In Sector 2, which includes The Reeds, Rooihuiskraal, and surrounding suburbs, common assault and sexual offences were prominent.
These offences occurred in similar patterns to Sector 1, spiking from Wednesday to Sunday during the day and early night.
Van Rooyen said house robberies in Sector 2 were most common on Fridays and Saturdays, particularly between midnight and noon, with The Reeds and Rooihuiskraal being hotspots.
He said firearm-related and attempted robberies have declined, although incidents involving other weapons have been on the rise.
“Residential burglaries again showed a pattern of occurring in the early morning hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, affecting mainly The Reeds and Rooihuiskraal.
“Unlike Sector 1, no business burglaries were reported in Sector 2.”
Sector 3, covering Raslouw, Eldoraigne, Heuweloord, Rooihuiskraal North, and Wierda Park, recorded scattered but persistent incidents of assault and sexual offences, mostly from midweek to the weekend between 08:00 and midnight.
Van Rooyen said similar to other sectors, firearm-related and attempted house robberies were down, while robberies involving other weapons have increased.
House robberies were reported mostly on Fridays and Saturdays, impacting Heuweloord, Eldoraigne, and Raslouw.
Residential burglaries followed the same trend seen across the board, early mornings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with hotspots in Wierdapark, Raslouw, Eldoraigne, and Rooihuiskraal North.
As with Sector 2, no business burglaries were recorded.
Van Rooyen urged residents to continue reporting all crimes to the police to ensure accurate records for better resource allocation.
He emphasised that statistics are only as strong as the number of reported incidents and stressed the need for co-operation between residents, police and private security.
“Crime prevention starts with awareness.
“By understanding when and where crime happens, we can all play a part in keeping our communities safe.”
