Residents participate in east parkrun on Easter

Families, fitness lovers and first-timers laced up for a refreshing Saturday parkrun at the scenic Pretoria National Botanical Gardens.

Dozens of locals gathered at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden to take part in a lively and energetic parkrun on Saturday, despite it being the Easter weekend.

The event, which continues to grow in popularity, welcomed runners, walkers, and families, many with their children in tow, for a morning of fitness and fun.

The 5km route through the gardens offered a scenic and peaceful environment, perfect for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Whether running for time or strolling with loved ones, everyone crossed the finish line with a smile.

Event co-ordinator Xolisile Pieter said he joined the parkrun initiative because it’s a great way to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy the outdoors.

“It’s another way of going out, meeting people and getting fit,” he said.

Pieter said one of the most rewarding aspects of hosting a Saturday parkrun is welcoming participants from different parts of the country.

“We get visitors from all over, which makes it really special,” he said.

The Botanical Garden Parkrun has the largest number of registered members in the world, counting above 70 000. Thankfully, the weekly participation sees only around 1 000 eager runners and walkers.
