One dead, four severely injured in west accident

A fifth patient was trapped inside the vehicle and later declared dead by emergency services personnel.

A person has died while four were critically injured following an accident in the west of Pretoria on Friday morning.

According to Tshwane Emergency Services (EMS) spokesperson, Tebogo Maake, the service responded to an accident involving two vehicles in the early hours of Friday, May 16.

The accident happened shortly before 05:00 on the corner of Church and Es’kia Mphahlele streets.

“A fifth patient was trapped in one of the vehicles and was later certified deceased by the emergency care practitioners.”

He said the scene was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Johan Van Dyk confirmed police are investigating the accident.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened and investigations are underway,” he said.

Maake had the following tips when reporting emergencies:

– Remain calm
– Speak clearly
– Know where you are to give the correct address
– Give your correct contact number to allow the operator to phone you back should they require to do so.
