Coffee with a cop in Centurion
Residents of Lyttelton met with law enforcement agencies at a gathering hosted by the local CPF.
The Lyttelton sector 4 CPF recently hosted a “coffee with a cop” gathering at The Park shopping centre in Centurion.
The gathering sought to bring residents and law enforcement agencies together to discuss issues that need urgent attention in the area.
After noticing a recent increase in crime, the CPF saw it was necessary to assure residents that role-players are working to keep them safe and secure.
CPF and Welriet NPC executive Elaine Battle said various law enforcement agencies were present at the gathering. The law enforcement agencies included the SAPS, TMPD, fire department, TMPD dog unit and private security companies.
Three Tshwane metro ward councillors engaged with community members to discuss their concerns directly with them. These councillors included Daryl Johnston, Francois Bekker and Johan van Buuren.
Battle said the Lyttelton S4 CPF is run by volunteers who are passionate about community safety.
She said their priority is to keep the community safe and ensure better communication between residents and the law enforcement agencies.
The event also catered to children and young adults, with several fun activities to take part in.
“The children enjoyed learning about the firefighter truck, the horses and the dogs from the dog unit,” Battle said.
“Sergeant Kenneth Manyemula from the Lyttelton SAPS social crime office gave safety-related advice to the children.”
Battle said the CPF plans to host similar gatherings soon and encouraged residents to attend.
“With the increase in crime, we urge residents to join their local CPF. It is proven that the more people that volunteer the greater the impact we can make on fighting crime,” she said.
“If you are not able to volunteer your time, you can consider contributing to Welriet NPC at only R80 per month. These contributions help us arrange days like these as well as support LS4 CPF in their fight against crime.”
She added that the contributions also go into providing volunteer patrollers with equipment such as car stickers, bulletproof vests and lights to use when patrolling at night.
