Update: Plane crashed due to engine failure
The scene was handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority for further Investigation.
Engine failure is presumed to be the cause of a plane crash that occurred on the eastern side of Wonderboom Airport near the N4 yesterday afternoon.
The Wonderboom Airport Fire Services responded to the scene in the vicinity of Linveld Road and smothered the aircraft with foam due to a fuel leak.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the incident occurred when a Piper Cherokee 173 was reported to have experienced engine failure just after takeoff.
“The crew of two were forced to do an emergency landing.
“Apparently one of the aircraft’s wheels hit an electrical pole during the emergency landing.”
Rekord previously reported that the occupants of the plane were unharmed. However, according to information received from Pro-Med, one of the occupants of the plane sustained minor injuries.
Both were transported to hospital.
Mabaso added that the scene was handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority for further Investigation.
