Home invader gets 30 years behind bars

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to over 30 years in prison at the Pretoria North magistrate’s court for various charges including house robbery.

On October 29, 2016, Tebogo Mpho Marshall and his accomplices (who are still at large) broke into a home in Rietgat, Soshanguve Block MM where they found the victim on the couch watching TV.

Marshall and his cohorts demanded the keys to the Mercedes-Benz parked in the victim’s driveway.

The woman was tied up with rope by the robbers who ransacked the home in search of valuables.

The robbers managed to take four cellphones, a sound amplifier and R25 000 in cash before fleeing in the victims’ Mercedes-Benz sedan.

While escaping, the robbers pulled over onto the side of the road after they covered enough distance from the crime scene. Police, who were on the lookout for the vehicle, came across them on the same road and a chase then ensued.

The chase came to an end at plot 19 in Rooiwal when the suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran off in different directions.

Marshall tried to flee into a nearby home where he found a woman bathing in her room. The woman screamed for help, which alerted the police as to where he was hiding.

The police were able to swiftly apprehend Marshall.

Rietgat SAPS station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto commended the magistrate’s court and the investigating officer for “a job well done”.

Investigations are still ongoing to track down Marshall’s accomplices.
