Beware this new hijacking trick, Soshanguve police warn

Zondi also said that criminals were using the rainy weather to their advantage by targeting people walking on the streets or stealing out of motor vehicles.

Soshanguve police warned residents against a new hijacking trick in which criminals would fake an accident at intersections and traffic lights.

“Hijackers tend to especially target female drivers,” said police spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi.

He warned that motorists should not stop or try to render assistance.

Zondi also said that criminals were using the rainy weather to their advantage by targeting people walking on the streets or stealing out of motor vehicles.

He shared some safety tips with residents:

– Keep your doors and windows closed with gates locked to deny easy access to criminals.

– Business establishments were asked to improve their security by installing cameras and using private security companies.

– Don’t stop when you suspect any foul play. Rather drive to the nearest police station or safe spot.

– When going to malls, ensure that belongings are kept out of sight to prevent theft out of motor vehicles.

Police urged community members with information about crimes to report it anonymously to the Soshanguve police station at 071 675 6286 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.
