Sundowns Ladies draw to maintain unbeaten start to season
With four wins and one tie in five games, Sundowns Ladies lead the standings.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies extended their unbeaten start to the Hollywoodbets Super League at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday.
Banyana Ba Style registered a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy Queens.
Both sides got out to a fast start, creating multiple scoring opportunities in the opening minutes of play.
In the 20th minute, Andisiwe Mgcoyi thought she had scored but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Banyana Ba Style took the lead immediately after the restart, thanks to Mgcoyi’s second goal of the season.
Boitumelo Rabale, Lelona Daweti and Nonhlanhla Mthandi were then introduced by Downs coach Jerry Tshabalala in place of Regina Mogolola, Melinda Kgadiete, and Lerato Kgasago to solidify in an effort to seal the win.
However, a late penalty converted by Galaxy Queens stopped Banyana Ba Style from securing all three points resulting in a stalemate.
Despite scoring a goal, Mgcoyi expressed unhappiness in the game’s outcome.
“Despite scoring the goal, I am dissatisfied with the outcome of the game, as it was a challenging fixture.
“Our team put in their best effort in all aspects of the game, but unfortunately, we were unable to achieve our desired result. We are all feeling frustrated with the outcome, but we are resolute in our determination to bounce back and improve our performance in the next game,” said Mgcoyi.
Andile Dlamini believes the outcome of the game will motivate the team for the upcoming fixtures.
“We controlled the game and had several promising moments, but we failed to make use of our opportunities.
“We don’t like losing points here at Mamelodi Sundowns women, therefore this outcome will spur us on to perform better in the following games,” Dlamini said.
“Although if the game’s conclusion was disappointing, we are determined to move on and concentrate on our upcoming battle.
“We have a good team, and we think that if we work hard and are committed, we can accomplish our objectives for the season.
“For now, we are concentrating on evaluating our performance and pinpointing areas that require improvement,” Dlamini stated.
Tiisetso Makhubela also believed that the draw was a wake-up call for the team.
“We always aim to win and dropping points is never part of our plan.
“However, we accept the result and will use it as motivation to come back stronger in the next game,” Makhubela said.
“As a team, we have a great spirit and a never-give-up attitude, which will help us to overcome this setback and achieve our objectives for the season.
“We are determined to bounce back and show our fans what we are capable of.
“The season is far from over, and we are looking forward to giving our best in every game,” Makhubela said.
With four wins and one tie in five games, Sundowns Ladies lead the standings.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will lock horns with the University of Pretoria in their next outing.
