Menlyn house fire lights up sky on Sunday evening

Tshwane Emergency services spokesperson Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said that there were no injuries reported.

No one was injured in a house fire on the corner of Atterbury Road and January Masilela Drive in Menlyn on Sunday evening.

Locals reported that a house was burning and had set nearby trees ablaze before 18:00.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson, Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the fires.

“The incident was reported at approximately 17:55.”

Mabaso said that the house was abandoned and was allegedly used by homeless people for shelter.

“Two rooms and a garage were on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene,” Mabaso told Rekord.

He confirmed that there was no injury.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined,” he said.
