Two cable theft suspects arrested at Proclamation Hill
The cable theft arrests form part of multiple TMPD operational successes recorded in Mamelodi and the CBD.
In a series of operational successes, TMPD officers recently apprehended two male suspects believed to have been involved in cable theft in Pretoria West.
The bust took place on Saturday at Proclamation Hill’s Pretoria West substation when the TMPD Cable Theft Unit responded to a complaint about suspected stolen cables.
Upon arrival, they found two male suspects in possession of two rolls of copper cables.
“Upon further questioning, the two suspects led the officers to a security guard at the Pretoria West substation, from where the cables were stolen. The suspects admitted to working with the security guard in connection with the stolen copper cables,” said TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
“The suspects alerted the officers there were other cables hidden in the bushes and that they were waiting for the security guard’s call to collect the stolen cables, so they could sell them,” he said.

The security guard then made a call to one of the suspects so they could meet up.
When the guard arrived at the location, he was immediately arrested for defeating the ends of justice and conspiracy to commit a crime.
TMPD officers recovered all the cables and the two suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables and tampering with essential infrastructure.
“A separate success was during a drunken driving joint operation conducted in Mamelodi on the same date by regional members. Four people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 68 fines were issued for road infringements,” said Mahamba.
Finally, in the Pretoria CBD, one suspect was arrested for fraud by the TMPD’s Accident Unit together with the Crime Intelligence Unit.
The suspect is believed to have sold fraudulent documents for institutions including Home Affairs and licensing departments, all from his office.
“In his office, he was found busy with fraudulent documents for a vehicle. All sorts of fraudulent documents were found in his office, ranging from fake licences, identity documents, bank statements, matric certificates and fake doctor’s notes, among others,” said Mahamba.
TMPD by-law officers also conducted a joint operation with other stakeholders in the Sunnyside area, where illegal street traders were removed.
Officers removed the vendors after they were previously given several opportunities to apply for trading licences and had failed to do so.
“Well done to all teams for working very hard to curb the scourge of crime in Tshwane,” said Mahamba.
Residents are encouraged to report cable theft on 012 358 1550 or to go to the client service centre in Gezina at the SANAB Building.
All reported information will be treated as confidential.
