SPORT: Supersport United aims to snatch 3rd cup in a row
Last year Supersport United crushed Orlando Pirates 4-1 in the final of the Nedbank Cup to retain the trophy.
Supersport United are aiming to win their third Nedbank cup in a row when they face Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
United have won the Nedbank trophy three times in the past six years.
Despite their poor form in the league this season, Eric Tinkler’s team have a habit of reaching and winning cup finals.
Earlier this season, they defeated Cape Town City 1-0 to claim the MTN 8 cup.
Following the triumph, a poor run of form has seen the Pretoria giants sit 11th position in the PSL.
They only managed to accumulate six wins from their 20 matches so far in the season.
Last weekend’s 4-2 victory over Celtic not only took them out of the relegation zone, but also gave them the much-needed win they were desperate for.

This weekend, they travel to the Free State to face the very same Celtic side they defeated a few days ago.
More pressure will be on Supersport to win as defending champions and also to finish their season on a high.
Tinkler recently said a loss of form was due to fatigue.
United played more games than any other team this season due to their CAF confederation cup commitments, where they lost 2-1 in the final to TP Mazembe.
Having lost striker Jeremy Brockie to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, Tinkler managed to get two new replacements, Mathew Rusike and Mogakolodi Ngele.
“I think he can (score many goals). He (Ngele) has the ability. He has shown that he is a goal scorer,” said Tinkler.
“If we can get back to our ways, our brand of football, the type of football we play, I think he will score not just a few but plenty.”

The third title for Supersport could change their season altogether.
Sundowns travel to Athlone stadium on Friday to face Cape Town All Stars.
Not much is known about the Capetonian side, but they have played against top teams before in the Nedbank Cup.
Last year, they were beaten by league champions Bidvest Wits 2-0 and before that, All Stars lost 3-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the round of 32 back in 2012.

Although there have been upsets in this competition where big teams were embarrassed by lower league teams, it is unlikely that Downs will face stiff competition.
Pitso Mosimane’s side has been beefed up with players like Brockie, George Lebese and Oupa Manyisa.
