Sundowns hoping for kind CAF draw

I don't want Mazembe in my group because we have two big giants in our group and anything can happen.

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Rwandan side Rayon Sports at the weekend to make the group stages of the CAF Championship.

The Pretoria side won 2-0 on aggregate, and because they won the cup as recently as 2016, would be seeded, meaning they could not be grouped with giants Al Ahly, Etoile du Sahel and the side that knocked them out last year, Wydad Casablanca.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was happy that neighbours Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland and Botswana outfit Township Rollers had also made the group stage to increase Southern African representation in the competition to four.

But Mosimane was wary of unseeded past champions TP Mazembe.

“The challenge in the group is TP Mazembe. Nobody wants Mazembe around because they are not needed. So we don’t want them in our group. Let them go somewhere else. It’s interesting, it’s Champions League, it’s beautiful. It’s good for my boys, for the experience,” he said.

The draw is expected to be conducted on Thursday.

Pretoria neighbours Supersport United also made the group stage of the less-prestegious Caf Confederation Cup.
